Today Ohrid is a cultural, spiritual, and tourist center. Together with Lake Ohrid has been named a world cultural and natural heritage listed city under the protection of UNESCO since 1980. Feel Ohrid for once in your life and you already know why you will return and why it simply cannot be retold.

St. Naum, one of the most beautiful monasteries in Macedonia and an important pilgrimage place. Breathtaking setting on a plateau over Ohrid Lake and Galicica mountain towering from behind. It was founded in 910 by St.Naum, but the present-day church was built in the 16th c.

SPECIAL OFFER: On the way to and from the Festival, you have the opportunity to visit cities like Budapest, Vienna, Graz, Prague, Skopje, Varna
– Golden sands, Sofia, Serbia – Belgrade and Leskovac and more. The Festival organizers can organize accommodation for the groups, guided city tours and tickets for sights for great deals. The cost of it upon request

HOW TO GET THERE?
The groups coming by bus can use their own transport all the time during the festival and the small journeys
around the city. Any expense caused by the usage of the bus (accident, robbing, breakdown, etc.) should
be covered by the vehicle’s insurance. Each member must have travel insurance policy.
FREE Parking in hotel Mizo.
The festival organizers will organize the transport for the groups coming by plane by picking them up from
Ohrid or Skopje airports, during the festival days and back to the same airports. The cost of the
transportation will be covered by the group and will be additionally agreed according to their number.

Itinerary

The International Festival of dance and songs
“Ohrid Waves” is a non-competitive festival of
traditional and modern dances and music performed
by folkloric groups. At the festival may participate
children and youth folklore dance groups, modern
dance groups, choirs, as well as groups and
performers from other art styles with minimum 10
persons on the stage. The age of participants is not
limited.

During the Festival each group will have at least two
performances in Ohrid and its area according to
the program of the festival. Groups should bring flag
and a sign with the name of the group for the
parade. All program activities and performances
will be held at evening hours so every day is free for
participants to use the beach or visit some of the
tourist attractions.

FESTIVAL PROGRAM
Detailed Festival Program will be given to you 1 month before the start of the festival.

20:30 Meeting and short description of the festival program (2 leaders per group max)

SECOND DAY
10:30 Free Time - Excursion day – apply for one of the festival excursions one month in advance

19:30 Parade & Concert (maximum 7 minutes per group)

Things to do

Explore Ohrid like never before!

1. Sightseeing of the old part of the city Ohrid

Ohrid Roman Amphitheater - Build around 200 BC, just over 2000 years old. Today is used during the Ohrid Summer Festival for performances of ancient tragedies and comedies. 

Samuil’s Fortress - dated from 4th century B.C., Samuel’s fortress consumes the city’s skyline with walls 3 km long and 16 meters high. With its strategic location, overlooking the town and the lake, it provides an ideal place for taking in the whole panorama of Ohrid and its surroundings.

St. Pantelejmon (Plaosnik) – dedicated to St. Clement and St. Pantelejmon it stands next to the ruins of the original St Clement´s monastery school at Plaosnik.

St. John Kaneo – it is not certain when it was built and fresco painted. St. John Kaneo church is most known for its scenic location, standing on a cliff over Lake Ohrid.

2. Boat trip (Ohrid – St. Naum – Ohrid)

Lake Ohrid – one of Europe’s deepest and according to most experts the oldest lake in Europe. The importance of the lake was further emphasized when it was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1979.

St. Naum Monastery – one of the most beautiful monasteries in Macedonia and an important pilgrimage place founded in 910 by St.Naum. Among the local people, there is a belief that the place is holy and sacred and that the ghost of St. Naum helps couples who have problems with having their own children.

3. Sightseeing of the springs in village Vevcani

Vevcani (Vevchani) is one of the most authentic and naturally beautiful villages in Macedonia. It’s situated in the southwestern part of Macedonia, in a valley on Jablanica Mountain 800 meters above sea level.

4. The City of Consuls Tour – 1 day Bitola

By visiting Bitola, you will have the opportunity to visit Heraclea Lyncestis with the beautiful well-preserved floor mosaics, fine examples of the early Christian Art period, you will enjoy the mixture of Ottoman, neoclassical 19th-century romantic architecture.

Finally, don’t miss out on Bitola as it is honored for its café culture, the pedestrian Shirok Sokak lined with nice colorful romantic and neoclassical buildings almost of all of them housing a café is a place to see and be seen!
