Calella is a seaside town on the Costa del Maresme, 58 km northeast of Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain. It is located on the coast between Sant Pol de Mar and Pineda de Mar. Calella is a town with more than 650 years of history, and about three kilometers of beaches with clean sand and intensely blue waters. Calella with its location makes it a first-class coastal destination awarded with the European quality Blue Flag - Calella beach.

Accommodation Details

Participants will be accommodated in comfortable 3 hotels* in Costa Brava, with the convenience of being close to both the beach and performance venues.

  • Accommodation will be on a Full Board basis, providing three buffet-style meals per day.
  • Rooms will typically accommodate 3 people with private bathrooms.
  • The organizer will provide two double rooms per group at no additional charge above the participation fee (leaders and drivers). Any additional double rooms (three or more) will incur fees as written in the festival conditions.

For additional requests:

  • Double Room: €8 per person/day
  • Single Room: €30 per person/day
  • Extra Night: €51 per person/day

For every 25 participants, the 26th participant is free of charge.

 

Payment Information

  • 30% deposit is due with the initial application to confirm participation.
  • 40% must be paid 60 days before the festival.
  • 30% balance is due 10 days before the official start of the festival.

The final participant list must be submitted 30 days before the festival start date. Deposits are non-refundable after this date.

Itinerary

The International Folk Festival “Grand Alegria” is a non-competitive sample of traditional dances performed by folklore groups. At the festival may participate in children and youth folklore dance groups, modern dance groups, choirs, as well as groups and performers from other art styles. The age of participants is not limited.

During the festival, each group will have 2-3 performances in Calella in the evening hours. Depending on the number of groups we will let you know about the minutes of your performance. During the day groups are free to visit Barcelona for sightseeing the city attractions or for shopping, or simply enjoy the free time on the beach. Every Group will be rewarded with a Certificate for taking part in the Festival.

The festival organizers will organize the transport for the groups coming by plane by picking them up from the airport, during the festival days, and back to the same airport. The cost of the transportation will be covered by the group and will be additionally agreed upon according to their number.

The groups coming by bus can use their own transport all the time during the festival and the small journeys around the city. Any expense caused by the usage of the bus (accident, robbing, breakdown, etc...) should be covered by the vehicle’s insurance. Each member must have a travel insurance policy.

Parking for buses (during your stay) is paid by the group at the rate set on the parking place (approximately 18 euro per day).

Festival Program:

1st day

15:30 Arrival in the Hotel and registration (please call us 1h before your arrival, 100km ahead of Calella) the rooms will be ready for check in at about 15:30

13:00-15:00 Lunch time (according to the hotel schedule, each group will receive from the hotel reception time table. * If the groups is not arriving on lunch, or its late please let us know in advance, otherwise we will not be able to move lunch to dinner)

19:30-21:00 Dinner time (according to hotel schedule, each group will receive from hotel reception time table. *If the groups arrive late, let us know in advance so the hotel can prepare cold dinner.)

2nd day

07:30-09:30 Breakfast (each group will receive from the hotel reception time table)

10:30 - 11:15 Meeting with representative and short description of the festival program (2 leaders per group max) (on Light house!)

13:00-14:00 Lunch time (according to hotel schedule, each group will receive from hotel reception time table).

19:00 Dinner

20:15 Parade (Parade starts from st. Riera de Capaspre next to McDonald’s)

20:30-23:00 Concert (maximum 10 minutes per group)

3rd day

Detailed Festival Program will be given to you 1 month before the start of the festival.

The organizer reserves the right to any changes in the program, and the participants will be informed on time. By applying you confirm that you accept all festival conditions!

Experience the passion and music of traditional Spanish Flamenco music and dance. The performance is a fascinating journey through Spanish folklore, music, and dance, from the classics to the purest flamenco. Two hours show program and drink sangria, champagne, or fruit juice.

5. Marienland

Have an unforgettable experience! Enjoy half a day at the wonderful world of Aspro’s parks. Swim, cool off, play with the water and then… relax, rest, and sunbathe in the quiet areas on the lawn around the pool, where you can feel nature all around you.

6. Montserrat

Place where spirituality, nature, and history come together. The mountain and Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat, founded in the 11th century, are located in a natural park 60 km west of Barcelona.

It is well known as the site of the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary. The mountain is composed of a strikingly pink conglomerate, a form of sedimentary rock. Montserrat is Spain's first National Park.
