Overview

Belgrade (Beograd) is the capital of Serbia and has a population of around 2 million. It is situated in South-Eastern Europe, at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe and has since ancient times been an important focal point for traffic, an intersection of the roads of Eastern and Western Europe.

There are spots in Belgrade you must definitely see and feel: streets, squares, monuments, parks, drinking fountains, archeological sites, and other sights that deserve a recommendation. Many of them have been given the status of cultural assets.

Belgrade Fortress represents the old citadel and Kalemegdan Park on the confluence of the River Sava and Danube, in an urban area of modern Belgrade. It is located in Belgrade's municipality of Stari Grad. Belgrade Fortress was declared Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance, and it is protected by the Republic of Serbia.

The Cathedral of Saint Sava is an Orthodox church in Belgrade, the largest Orthodox cathedral in the Balkans, and one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in the world. The church is dedicated to Saint Sava, founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church and an important figure in medieval Serbia.

Knez Mihailova Street is the main walking street in Belgrade, it is a pedestrian zone and shopping center, protected by law as one of the oldest and most valuable landmarks of the city. It has a large number of impressive buildings and mansions built at the end of the 1870s.
